Depuis plusieurs années, les travaux sur les jardins affichent une vitalité qui se caractérise par le croisement des disciplines et par le décloisonnement des approches. Perçu à la fois comme espace urbain, territoire d'interventions artistiques, lieu de représentation, miroir d'une réflexion sur le monde, le jardin entretient avec l'art un rapport essentiel, qu'il s'agisse en peinture de l'art paysager, en littérature de topoï comme ceux des bucoliques ou du locus amoenus, ou de l'art horticole et de ses développements dans l'art contemporain et l'architecture du paysage. Le jardin offre une figuration concrète des rapports toujours dynamiques et fluctuants entre la nature et la culture. Penser les formes et les représentations du jardin permet ainsi de toucher à un point névralgique de la pensée humaine.
Ce colloque international vise à explorer les relations entre le jardin et les arts dans une perspective multidisciplinaire en réunissant des approches en recherche ainsi qu'en recherche-création. Il aura lieu à l'Université Concordia (Montréal) les 10 et 11 décembre 2009 et sera bilingue (français et anglais).

Current work on gardens exhibits a vitality characterized by the crossing of disciplines and the integration of various theoretical and historical approaches. A garden can be an urban space, a territory for artistic intervention, a place of representation, a mirror of one's thoughts on the world. Gardens and art have always been closely linked, whether in painting and its relation to landscape art, in literature with the use of motifs such as the eclogues or loci amoeni, or in horticultural art and its developments in contemporary art and landscape architecture. Gardens offer a concrete representation of the dynamic and fluctuating relationships between nature and culture. Thus, interpreting the forms and representations of gardens provides access to a key element of human thought.
This international conference will explore the associations between gardens and the arts in a multidisciplinary perspective, bringing together various approaches in research and research/creation. It will be held at Concordia University (Montréal) on December 10 and 11, 2009 and will be bilingual (French and English).
